E.G. Steele was founded in 1946 by my great-grandfather, Ernest George Steele. Just a year after the end of the Second World War, when Europe was still rebuilding, Ernest showed the entrepreneurial spirit that continues to define our family today. He travelled to France and struck a pioneering deal to bring the first-ever rail freight wagons into the UK from abroad.
That moment marked the beginning of E.G. Steele - a proud family business rooted in the heart of Scotland, now operating on a truly global stage in the rail freight industry.
The business was later passed to Ernest’s son, James, my grandad, then to my father David, who I am proud to work alongside today as the fourth generation of Steeles at the helm. Together, we carry forward our family’s tradition of quality and excellence while embracing digital innovation to help our customers stay ahead of the curve.
From those first wagons in 1946, we now export components worldwide, working with customers in countries including the USA, Australia, Ireland, Italy, and France.
We remain one of the few family-owned and run companies in the UK rail freight sector - and we are very proud of that. For us, it means one thing above all: we always put our customers first. Because your success, is our success.
